GÜMÜŞLÜK, a small fishing village near Bodrum, will host 12 concerts from early July to August as part of its annual classical music festival.

This will be the 12th edition of the Gümüşlük festival, first launched in 2004 as a series of piano recitals and which later evolved into an international event that also features a summer music school, the Gümüşlük Festival Academy.

This year’s program will run from July 3 through Aug. 8 with concerts at the town’s ancient stone quarry in the Koyunbaba quarter, save for the opening performance, which will be hosted at the ancient amphitheater in Bodrum.

That concert will see the Karşıyaka Chamber Orchestra of İzmir share the same stage with pianist Gülsin Onay, the festival’s artistic adviser, in a repertoire of pieces by Mozart and Shostakovich under the baton of maestro Rengim Gökmen.

Other performers on the lineup include the French virtuoso violinist Gilles Apap, the American string ensemble the Kronos Quartet, the Russian classical pianist Vyacheslav Gryaznov, the multinational Trio KlaViS, and the English concert and recording pianist Martin Roscoe.

The festival will wrap up on Aug. 8 with a concert blending rock classics with classical piano when Ayşedeniz Gökçin, a young Turkish pianist famous for her piano arrangements of staples of the world rock music repertoire, plays a selection of songs by Pink Floyd and Nirvana.
