TOURISTS and expats enjoyed a good old-fashioned village fete day at REDS Bar on Sunday and helping raise hundreds of Turkish Lira for AKUT, the local search and rescue organization.

The fundraising day at the Yesilkent restaurant included Splat the Rat, a raffle, throwing sponges at willing victims in the stocks, and smashing tennis balls into the Aegean Sea with the aim of getting them into a small boat which AKUT was aiming to raise money to buy for.

REDs owner Soke-born and adopted Liverpudlian Taner (aka Tony) also kindly hosted a tug o’ war, an auction and a barbecue – with a chance to win a great trip for two people to Pammukale.

Richard Rush, of AKUT, said: “We all had a great, old-fashioned fete day and raised a significant sum of money towards the AKUT cause. Thanks to everyione who supported us and the AKUT team for putting on a good show.”

Prizes were donated by a number of local business including Golden Dragon, My China, Pie King, Goldstar Restaurant, Circus, Moby Dicks, REDs, Mango and Mariya Tours.
