VOICES caught dramatic pictures of the high winds which lashed the resort last weekend. The storms caused 15 ft high waves to smash again Altınkum’s harbour wall, while boats and their crews braved the rough weather. Readers will see a brave Hakan Çetinkaya, owner of the Flying Fish, braving the worst of the weather to attach a rope to the harbour wall to keep the boat from drifting out.
There was no damage to the boat, but it was not so comfortable for the crew who were rain lashed during the storm.
The Flying Fish, which Hakan owns with his British wife Laura Bower, will offer the first ever direct boat cruise service from the resort to Kos, as well as private cruises along the Aegean coastline.
The storms also lashed other parts of the resort from Mavişehir to Akbük, while there were some reports of structural damage in other areas.
The rain and high winds eventually blew out for a sunny afternoon, in which scores of people came out for the Easter Sunday games, and Monday proved a hot starter to early tourist arrivals.
However, the rains hit back during Tuesday morning before easing for a sunny clear day, but the outlook for the weekend remains decidedly un-springlike for this time of the year.
