Petition for airport road
Posted on Saturday, August 08 @ 07:59:38 CDT by voices

A NEW camaign to put pressure on the local authorities to complete the ‘fast-road’ between Bodrum Airport and Didim was launched this week.

Didim Chamber of Commerce has started a petition campaign calling for the Didim–Kazıklı Airport Road to be finished. Once complete, trips to the airport from the resort will take about an hour, instead of the approximate 1 hour 30 minutes.

Chairman of Didim Chamber of Commerce Ufuk Döver said the Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay would come to Didim on August 13.

He said: “This road is of vital importance to Didim so before our meeting with the Minister, we have started a campaign for the Didim Kazıklı Airport Road to be built and opened as soon as possible.

“We will call for resident’s support by putting up posters in different parts of the town and handing out flyers. We will visit our Head Official and Didim Council, as well as the NGOs and various associations, inviting them to join our campaign.

“We aim to collect 10,000 before the minister arrives.”

Claiming it was not good enough alone to declare Didim a tourism city, he said: “We have brought this
matter up in our meetings in Ankara. It is important for Didim and it will contribute to tourism greatly.

“We have prepared a report also explaining these issues. We will distribute this report to public bodies and institutions. We will have stalls to collect signatures from the public. We will give the report also to the Minister himself when he comes.”

Mr Döver said that they would also discuss other road problems with Minister Günay during his visit. Döver spoke: “If we do not ask for anything, nobody will help us. We have to keep working on things.”

I was beginning to think this road was another myth propogated by some Elaks when we bought (as was the promise of low cost airlines, (next year, the year after, ad finitum). However, having read articles in the last few episodes of Voices, I live in hope that this actually comes to fruition.  The journey from Bodrum to Altinkum is offputting for visitors and any significant reduction in travel time can only assist Didim in becoming the area it strives to be. As with my oft repeated suggestion that the builders and developers pay towards the greening of Altinkum, (by being required to tidy up and plant shrubs and trees in the areas around their developments)the new road, if ever it happens, would complement the Marina and other developments the council tries to implement. Heres hoping the petition gets off the ground and the powers that be take notice.

I always can do Bodrum to Altinkum in one hour 10 mins, so someone has made a mis-calculation

This would help tourism.  A shorter journey from the airport is always a plus.

Would be holiday makers, potential buyers always look at distance from airport to resort.  A long journey often is took into consideration when booking a holiday.
