We'll sue over holiday hell
Posted on Saturday, February 06 @ 09:39:42 CST by voices

A BRITISH couple are suing after claiming their five-star sunshine break turned into a ‘holiday from hell’.

George and Kaye Downie say their week-long trip to Turkey to celebrate Kaye’s 50th birthday was ruined when they were struck down by a severe vomiting bug which left them with agonising stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea.

The couple from Clifton, Salford, were so appalled by the Club Armar Hotel in Marmaris that they have started legal proceedings against Surrey travel company Goldtrail. They say they want to stop others suffering in the same way.

Mr Downie, 54, a buildings manager for the University of Manchester, slammed the ‘atrocious’ accommodation.

He said their room was shabby, the bathroom was filthy and their food from the restaurant was so cold they had to heat it up in the microwave.

He said: “I wanted the break to be extra-special, but the whole experience was terrible. We had never seen anything like it – it was an absolute hell hole.

“The drinks from the bar tasted strange. The next day we woke up with severe stomach cramp and vomiting and diarrhoea – and we were ill for the rest of the holiday.”

Mr Downie says they were moved to Club Armar just before going on holiday after Goldtrail told them the five-star hotel they had booked had closed down.

Irwin Mitchell solicitor Amandeep Dhillon is acting on behalf of the couple and says the firm has won damages from Goldtrail on behalf of more than 100 clients who have suffered similarly over recent years.

A spokeswoman for Goldtrail said the company had investigated the claims and there was nothing to suggest food provided by the hotel had caused guests to become ill.

Well this couple have our sympathy!!. Goldtrail is well named for the owners but not the customers!!.When we first started going to Turkey we booked a weeks 4* all inclusive hotel with them and was told on the transfer bus that the hotel we had booked was full so we had to go to another one which turned out to be a 3* (or so they said) The driver had no idea where it was as he only had the name and was stopping every mile to ask the way, (after 2 and a half hours on the bus we arrived at 3.30am) it was filthy dirty and in the middle of nowhere and full of Russians and we were the only English speaking people there, even the staff could not understand English. The dining room was a nightmare with the Russians grabbing everything in sight, we just could not eat there. After about two days a man turned up saying he was the Goldtrail Rep and all he could offer was a ride in his car to have a look round, saying we could not be moved as everywhere else was full and was just not interested in what we said.
when we got back We complained to the company by letter many times and did not even get a reply, phone calls are no good because we could never get an answer. We complained to Teletext who we booked through only to be told they knew there are problems with this company but they could do nothing and in the end we just gave up and now tell everybody we meet to avoid this company like the plague as customer care is something they choose not to consider, And if they think different Iwould challange
them to defend themselves via this paper but I wont hold me breath..
