Didim has a fair chance
DIDIM Chamber of Commerce Executive Board Member Hikmet Atilla said that they were preparing to represent Didim in the best way at the EMITT Fair.
Atilla said that as a result of their meetings in Aydın and Didim, it was now certain that Didim was participating at the fair:
“Didim will use 77 square meters of stall space with Aydın and Kuşadası, rented by Aydın. Our stall will hold some activities during the festival as well,” he said.
Didim’s bis is being supported by Didim Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Merchants and Artisans, Didim Tourism Infrastructure Union, Councils of Didim and Akbük, Didim Tourism Association, Didim Merchants and Artisans Credit Cooperative and Hotel Palm Wings.
Didim’s population swells
THE RESORT is growing at a fast pace, according to figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute.
Didim has a population of 52,813 people according to the data from the 2009 Register System Based on Addresses.
According to these data, the population in Didim city centre is 41,246, with 21,341 men and 19, 905 women. The population in Didim’s villages and towns is declared as 11,567, with 5, 983 men and 5,584 women. The most highly populated village in Didim was Yalıköy with 1,761.
In Akbük alone lives 2,049 males and a 1,792 women, adding up to a population of 3,841.
Doctor drop at hospital.
DIDIM State Hospital has entered the New Year with a doctor shortage.
With one doctor resigning and two being appointed away, there are now nine specialist doctors at the hospital.
The newly opened urology clinic has been left without a doctor with specialist Dr. Arif Ali Gençtürk resigning on February 1.
Dr. Ahmet Güneş from the ENT clinic and specialist Muhammet Baran from the paediatrics hav been were appointed to other cities.
Newspaper office attacked
THE offices of a popular Turkish daily newspaper in Didim has been attacked, with vandals smashing windows and causing 3,000 TL worth of damage.
Mavi Didim Newspaper, published for the last 13 years, was smashed up in the early hours of Friday (Jan 29). Police have begun an investigation.
Newspaper owner Ergün Korkmaz said, “We will continue our publication without giving up our principals on being unbiased and truthful.”
One dead in accident
A MOTORCYCLIST was killed when he was in collision with a pick-up truck.
The accident occurred at about 11pm last Thursday at about 10pm at the Cumhuriyet Mahallesi Cengizhan Konutları junction.
A pick-up truck driven by Ş.B. (30) and the motorbike ridden by Murat Uludağ (32) crashed at the junction. The motorbike rider died at the scene. He was married and a father of two children.
Ş.B. was taken into custody and Uludağ’s body was taken to the Didim State Hospital morgue.
Didim keep on rolling By Danny Martin
DIDIM produced yet another brilliant performance in very muddy and wet conditions to beat play-offs rivals Yildiz Fenerspor 2-1.
The win enabled them to cement second place and stay three points ahead of the chasing pack.
Urged on by a small but noisey crowd Didim out fought Yildiz with every player working so hard as a team for this victory. All the goals from Ali and Semih came in the first half.
Didim are now 11 games undefeated but now have three very important games against fourth placed Cine Madranspor (only 3 pts behind); table toppers Aydin Bld, followed by a Wednesday trip to improving Aydinspor.

Trekking and swimming
THE next adventure for Didim Trekkers will be a three-hour walk near Aydin followed by a swim in a thermal pool to relax after the walk. A dolmus to and from Didim will be laid on.

Chefs ‘golden’ moments
STUDENT chefs from a Didim tourism college walked away with two golds at a regional competition recently.
The Adnan Menderes University Didim Vocational College participated for the first time in the 2nd Golden Crepe Chefs Contest organised by the Turkey Chefs Federation at Antalya Expo Center on January 20-23.
Competing with three teams, the ADÜ chefs scooped two gold medals and a fourth place in the contest.
ADÜ Didim Vocational College Gastronomy and Kitchen Arts Department Coordinator Burak Mil and the Gastronomy students Mehmet Taş, Sedat Balkan, Cem Yağcı, Engin Şentürk, Mesut Özkan, Gazi Kıvrak, Muhammet Örs, Mustafa Özdemir and Okan Öztürk participated in the contest, which was joined by 20 universities.
ADÜ teams won gold in the categories of cooking and taste, and came in fourth in presentation.
Emrah delighted with new chair
DIDIM Council has donated a battery-operated wheelchair to Emrah Polat, who has been confined to a wheelchair for 10 years due to muscular dystrophy.
Emrah (23), living in Altınkum Mahallesi, started suffering from muscular dystrophy about 10 year ago and was confined to wheelchair.
Didim Council Culture Service and Didim Handicapped Associations worked together to provide Emrah with a wheelchair running on batteries. Vice-Mayor Ahmet Karaoğlu presented it to Emrah at his home.
Didim Handicapped Association Chairman Bedri Altıntaş, also present, said: “We provide the disabled people such donations to facilitate their lives with the support of benevolent people and the Council. Didim Council has helped about 20 people so far.”
