Drivers face stiffer fines

DRIVERS failing to ensure that their tyres are in good working order this winter will face increased financial penalties – increasing to 602TL from Jan 1 from the present 571TL.

The decree was issued by the Transport Ministry in a bid to get drivers to improve safety on the roads this winter.

Work to improve closed cemetery

DIDIM Mayor Deniz Atabay has visited Didim’s closed cemetery to oversee the ongoing improvements.

The town’s main cemetery has been closed for a number of months, but the mayor pledged money would be used to keep the site up to standard and to enable families to pay their respects to loved ones in tidy and neat surroundings.

Improvements to paths and sidewalk, as well as the installation of water feeders for plants and shrubs, have all been added and the project is expected to end soon.

One dead in bike accident

A 29-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist has died after his machine ran out of control on a major road in Altinkum on Thursday night.

Local media named married father-of-one Ismet Eğerci as the deceased after the bike travelling Karakol Cad hit the curb and then collided with road signs and concrete columns on the pavement.

He was said to have died of head injuries. A passenger on the bike, a 40-year-old man, was taken to Soke Hospital
