Update

ALTINKUM will again see a high profile police presence this year, with beach police taking to their bikes to offer a faster response to victims of crime.

The Aydin-based police took up their posts this week for the season and with being on bikes, aim to get to points of crime or security concerns within minutes – rather than having to battle through the crowds in cars are on foot.

The initiative to offer more mobility began last year and so successful was it, that Didim governor Iskender Yöndem has supported the project again for this year.

He said: “I think foreign and domestic guests are re-assured to see the high profile police presence as it helps them feel more comfortable about peace and security here.

“We are taking all the necessary measures to help them have a trouble-free holiday.”

The main focus of the cycling police will be in and around Altinkum’s Yali Cad. They will operate between 08:30 and 20:00.

The cycling cops will also be backed up by plainclothes officers and CCTV in a bid to prevent grab-and-run thieves as well as sneak thieves.

He added that they would also act as a deterrent against peddlers of various items on the beach as well as those illegally charging people for sun loungers and brollies.

Mr Yöndem said the blanket CCTV network across the resort would also act as a ‘silent deterrent’.
