A HOUSE that was abandoned as a result of the population exchange between Turks and Greeks is set to be brought back to life as a museum.

Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay said the two-storey house will undergo extensive restoration and will be transformed into a place to reflect on the town’s history.

The house has been taken on by Didim Municipality with the sole purpose of seeing this project to fruition. One of the topics that it will feature will be the population exchange of 1923.

The building, which is located in the Hisar district, is expected to be completed in the near future.

Mayor Atabay, Vice President Salih Bankoğlu, Municipality Construction and Urban Planning Director Öznur Gündoğdu, Hisar Neighborhood Audience Bahri Aşık and the contractors who were accepted for the tender visited the building recently.

Mr Atabay said: “The project to be done will be good as it will introduce the town’s past to its citizens and tourists.”
