500 days to Akbük’s happy ending

THE 290 million TL second phase of the long-running Akbük sewerage works are set to get underway soon and be completed by summer 2024, local authority officials have revealed.

A tender has been held and confirmed for the sewerage works to connect the infrastructure created in the first phase to the Didim pipeline network.

Speaking at the site delivery, Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay said: “This is how we solved Akbuk’s infrastructure problem. Work will be completed by the summer of 2024.”

The site delivery of the second stage infrastructure works includes the following parts in the Kumkent region in Akbuk district, Fevzi Pasa District, Denizköy District, Konya Culture and Zonguldaklılar site regions.

Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Barış Altıntaş, Didim Mayor A. Deniz Atabay, ASKİ General Manager Hakan Olgaç, İller Bankası General Directorate Construction Manager Meltem Malatyalı, Iller Bank İzmir attended the meeting held in Akbük on the subject.

Regional Directorate Infrastructure Manager Mehtap Büyüknisan, Project Manager Melik Çalga, CHP Didim District President Nurettin Koçak, İzmir Regional Directorate Auditors of the Court of Accounts and contractor company representatives also attended.


Speaking at the meeting, ASKİ General Manager Hakan Olgaç stated that the first stage sewer line works in Akbük have been completed and there are no problems in the city center.

He said the second phase will cover 57,419 meters of sewerage and transmission lines, 17,600 metres of pipeline, 900 parcel chimneys and 2,700 meters of parcel connections.

The project includes 4 chimney-type pumping stations, 12 drainage pools and 14 suction cup structures. “Our tender will cost 290 million TL and will be delivered within 500 working days,” he said. “There will be no complaints about sewage in Akbuk.”

Mr Atabay stated that Akbük’s problem with sewerage will no longer exist, and said, “A system that has been expected for many years and has become essential for Akbük is starting this year.  “I would like to thank our President Özlem on behalf of the people of Didim. It was a big decision and she made it. I would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
