Nature volunteers have a civil lawsuit against a limestone and stone quarry planned to be opened near Akbük.

Members affiliated to the Akbük Nature and Life Association staged an event as part of the “We Stand Up for Our Nature” calling on public solidarity against the potentially environmentally damaging project.

Citizens held banners chanting “We Don’t Want Limestone or Quarries in Akbük” and held a meeting in front of the Ceylan Evleri Site on Kazıklı Road.

Association members announced that they have filed a lawsuit against the limestone and stone quarry planned to be opened in Akbük. During the survey, local residents and environmental volunteers protested to prevent the destruction of nature.

Ali Serin, President of the Akbük Nature and Life Association, highlighted the environmental damage the quarry would cause, saying, “The limestone and stone quarry planned to be opened in Akbük will disrupt the region’s natural structure, ecosystem, biodiversity, and ecological balance. This project threatens both wildlife and human life.”

Serin stated that stone and marble quarries cause irreparable damage to nature, making the following statement: “Marble and stone quarries first destroy soil and vegetation.”

He emphasized that Akbük is not only a residential area but also a migratory route for birds and a habitat for endemic plants. “Therefore, opposing the quarry is not only about protecting today, but also our future,” he said. In his press statement, he invited environmental volunteers and all nature lovers to support this fight.
