A BRITISH resident has issued an alert to other expats in Didim after she was contacted by a person claiming to be from the police.

Rita Bootland said she received a call from “police” asking if she had lost a photocopy of her my kimlik as they had found one.

She said: “As my Turkish is limited, I gave the phone to my Turkish neighbour. She told them I had not lost my kimlik. So the caller asked to verify my kimlik number, which I didn’t give but said I had it in my possession.

“Then they asked which organizations might have taken a photocopy of my kimlik. My friend became suspicious and hung up.

“They rang me back but I didn’t answer as they rang on my Turk Telekom landline which is a number I never give out.”

She said her neighbour contacted rang the police and gave the number that the people rang her on for them to investigate.

Rita said: “Hopefully if one person is saved from accidentally divulging valuable information it will be worth it.”
