ONE of Didim’s most established bars, Sky Bar, raised 1,360TL with a fund-raiser dinner, raffle  and quiz last Sunday.

Expats and Turkish residents came together for the joint event in helping to raise hundreds of Turkish Lira towards a fund to help the education needs for children of the miners that died in the tragic accident at Soma.

Sky Bar, in Çamlik Mahallesi, was full to brimming for the charity night and drew a warm and compassionate response from holidaymakers and residents alike.

Voices columnist Glenn Maffia, speaking on behalf of the expat community, said: “The night went excellently well and everyone at Sky Bar would like to thank all those people, tourists, expats and Turkish residents alike, for contributing to such a worthy cause.”

Renowned for its unparalleled coverage of sporting events, Sky Bar gave itself over to a night dedicated to remembering those who lost their lives in Turkey’s worst mining catastrophe.

Donations raised by a raffle, quiz, and buffet, as well as individual contributions from all those whom attended and customers throughout the week achieved a highly commendable 1,360 TL.

Owners Hüseyin and Serkan Ilhan spoke of the kind generosity shown by their customers and the genuine consideration towards the miners’ families. A massive “Thank You” was extended to all who offered their moral and financial support.
