A CARTOON artist featured in last year’s infamous Didim cartoon poster project during the town’s Peace Festival has been fined 6,000TL

Foreign artists had entered the competition, but saw their entries, which were put on billboards at the bottom of Ataturk in Didim, come under the radar of the town’s public prosecutor’s office and covered up.

The designs were then taken down and seized by police on the order of the public prosecutor.

Some of the designs were based on themes surrounding the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul and as part of the competition hosted by Don Quixote, a humor magazine.

Mehmet Gölebatmaz, one of the Turkish artists to take part, was issued with a 6,000TL fine for insulting the prime minister. This fine has since been suspended pending an appeal.

The likes of Carlos Latuff (Brazil), Erdogan KARAYEL (Germany), Marco De Angelis (Italy), Murat Ahmet (Kosovo) as well as Turkish artists Köksal Çiftçi, Kürat Zaman, Gölebatmaz, Meneke Çam, Muammer Olcay and Sait Munzur were featured in the project.
