Some of the news in short around Didim

Street sellers banned from Saturday Market

THE streets around Didim Market are a lot quieter and better to walk on after a crackdown banished itinerant sellers.

The operation, promised by Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay, has also been backed by advertising hoardings declaring the council’s war on reclaiming the streets for its residents.

One of the starkest sights of this was the streets around Didim’s Saturday Market which were deserted of sellers of Fruit, clothes and other goods.

Mr Atabay commented that with the opening of the tourism season, there would also be a concerted effort on clearing pathways of goods in Yenihisar and Altinkum. He said those that resisted the laws, would face criminal action.

Police crackdown on motorcyclists

TRAFFIC police are presently carrying out a crackdown on motorcyclists found not using helmets as they ride around the resort

Officers stopped several riders for rising without helmets, as well as other traffic offences, such as driving without a license, no and insurance and even fake plates.

Didim Beach coastal path closed

TOURISTS AND residents are being denied access to the newly created Didim Beach coastal path.

It has emerged that recent works on the segment between Aytepe Beach and Second Beach – effectively the path that runs below the Luna Park – has been closed.

Notices have been put up saying that the path is dangerous the area illegal to enter. It is assumed that further works are required on making the path on that part of the coastal walk completely safe.

Didim’s fire season begins

THE intense heat of the last week has sparked the start of Didim’s fire season

DIDIM fire brigade was called to a number of minor scrub fires – the worst of which was in the Hisar district and momentarily threatened 40 homes close by.

The fire, which charred 30 square metres, was aided by high winds, although firemen were able to bring it under control within an hour. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

Female walker knocked down

A TOURIST required hospital treatment after she was in collision with a car in the Aytepe district of Didim.

The woman, identified by the local media as Christine Durkin, aged 74, was walking along when she was hit by the car at about 2.30pm on Sunday June 22.

The impact flung her into scrubland at the side of the road. An ambulance was called and she was taken to hospital for treatment.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the crash. The 24-year-old driver was unhurt.
