Mail problems plague PTT

Update

TURKISH and foreign residents have voiced their anger yet again at the snail’s pace of the delivery of letters across Didim.

Since the main PTT office moved to a new building, next to Turk Telekom, there have been several complaints of letters remaining in the sorting office and non-delivery of important mail.

Readers expressed their dismay to the Voices Newspaper at the long queues at the PTT office, but the main complaint was the fact that they were not even receiving post.

The mail malaise at the PTT seems to be a lack of staff – although postal workers can still shift out bills from such organizations as Turk Telekom.

But more personal post, and those from foreign banks to their customers, for example those waiting on credit or debit cards, are simply not getting through.

A number of efforts have been made to lobby the Director of the PTT, but there has been little headway or non at all.

Local media said the only route to solving this was action directly aimed at the local governor, or indeed, the Aydin Governor’s office, to appeal for more staff.

In the meantime, residents desperate for important post, are having to traipse to the PTT office in the hope of getting mail – only to find that it could be handed over the counter to them by their local postman!
