Update

GETTING to see a doctor at a state hospital in Turkey will now cost you DOUBLE, just as Voices flagged up a warning to its readers 20 days ago.

A statement from the Aydin Medical Association Board revealed that as of July 1, uninsured patients will have to pay a 30TL fee for a doctor’s examination as against the previous 15.50TL.

It added that the doubling of these fees would also apply to all laboratory, radiology and inpatient services.

In mid-June, contradictory messages were emerging from state hospitals about the charges for consultation and treatment being doubled.

Voices alerted the British Consulate, in Izmir, who initially informed us there was no immediate change.

The consulate staff contacted Didim state, Kusadasi and Izmir hospitals , and all stated that NO there is presently no change to the 15.50TL charge.

Later consulate staff confirmed that Bodrum had state hospital had begun implementing the new charge of 30TL

It appears a new law was passed doubling the price on June 3, but hospitals were only beginning to realize the new charge change from 15.50TL to 30TL.

It appears with the Aydin Medical Association Board’s statement that the doubling of charges is now filtering through.
