DIDIM’S Director of Education Emrah Turgut has announced that two new schools for the town are due to come on stream soon.

A 6,057sqm high school is being built just off Adnan Menderes Bulvari, in Efeler district, while a 7,552sqm primary school is under construction in the Camlik area of Didim.

The schools will have 24 classrooms and are expected to be ready by this November.

Mr Turgut said there were four high schools in the area, but a study had found there was a need for an additional school.

New college plan backed

Plans for a specialist vocational training college focusing on occupational health and training, with funding from the EU’s Erasmus Project, has apparently been accepted, as Voices Newspaper went to press.

The project was among 1,482 submitted by the Ministry of Education for Eu funding and was one of 221 across the country to be accepted.

Project manager Hussein Erel said about 60 students would be taken on in the first year, with the college developing close links with similar institutions in Finland, Germany and Belgium.

As part of their training, the students will travel to the countries and gain invaluable information and expertise on occupational health and safety training.

Mr Erel said: “Our goal is to improve the vocational education and the quality of potential employees, while also looking to reduce the number of deaths in accidents at work, and reduce the rate of injuries and those incapacitated long-term due to work injuries.

“The students will also be taught accident prevention, risk assessment, first aid and hygiene to help minimize accidents in the work place.”

They will also gain work experience abroad and learn new foreign languages.

Mr Turgut spoke of his pride in the realization of the project. “This enhances Didim’s image in the vocational training sector and I congratulate all the staff who contributed to make this come to fruition, ” he said.
