Four dead, 25 injured in Didim road carnage

TWO children, aged four and five years, were among four people killed and 25 injured in three accidents on the roads of Didim in recent days.

1 dead, 11 injured

Last Thursday (Aug 14), a five-year-old Russian girl, named as Polina İgnatovich died from her injuries in a three-car smash on the Didim-Akbuk road, close to Yesiltepe, at 10am.

A total of 11 people were injured: Russian tourists Viladem Ignatovich (35), Maria Ignatovich (34) and Eduard Ignatovich (10) were treated for serious injuries at state hospitals.

According to media reports, among the injured were three British people. They have been named by local Turkish media as Jason Rallows, Graham Hurst and Sadri Owen. It is understood all three were treated for various injuries.

Four occupants of another car, believed to be a Turkish family, were also transferred to hospitals in Aydin for treatment.

3 dead, 11 injured

In one of the worst accidents to have occurred in Didim in recent years was the loss of life to three people in one car when it was in collision with a hotel service bus also on the Didim-Akbuk road, near Denizkoy, at about 8.30am, on Sunday morning (Aug 17).

All the dead from car were aged 4, 29 and 78. Five children, aged between 1.5 years to 11 years, were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.

An ambulance helicopter was used to airlift the youngest victim to Izmir for emergency surgery.

Six people on the service bus were injured and receiving medical treatment.

The impact of the accident caused the car to be dragged into an olive plantation before it came to rest.

Also on Sunday, there was a two-car collision on the Didim-Soke road, outside the Vet-Tour sitesi. One driver was seriously injured and two others received slight injuries.

All the accidents are under investigation by the relevant authorities.
