Update

A GROUP of protestors took a street in Akbuk to demonstrate the smells and potential pollution arising from a temporary local sewage treatment plant.

Several residents, with banners, including declaring “I do not want to smell sewer” and “Our children must face the sea not the sewers”, braved the heat of the day on August 29.

They said they wanted to draw attention to the environmental pollution and smells arising from the temporary plant.

It is understood the plant is a stopgap to a more permanent solution being sought by the local authorities.

The protestors called on Akbuk resident to support their cause and to highlight the problems that the pollution was causing.

Akbuk has been under the cosh in recent weeks with a lack of water affecting most homes across the district. Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay has said he will look into the problems and seek effective solutions.
