Glass recycling units hit the streets

Update

DIDIM Council has begun installing large glass recycling units, shaped like bottles, on the town’s streets as part of a recycling effort.

After new waste bins were brought in, along with new recycling cages for various items, the council sanctioned the delivery of the green and white bottle banks for the town in the hope that people will begin recycling.

The delivery came as part of a contract signed by the council and glass recycling firm.

The aim is to encourage home owners to separate glass and other recyclables and drop them into the separate banks or collection points for the likes of metal, plastic, paper and cardboard.

Empting of the glass bottle banks will occur every Thursday, the council said.

An awareness campaign will also be launched in schools to encourage greater recycling and reduce landfill.
