AS appointments go, a new governor in town is usually dismissed by most expats as nothing to do with them as it doesn’t affect their lives.

However, it might just pique the interest of some that he actually speaks English – and a bit of French.

So Voices would like to welcome Mr İskender Yönden to Didim as arrives having recently served in the Erzurum district of Hatay.

Mr Yönden, who is married with two children, replaces the highly popular Ersin Emiroglu who departed after being re-assigned to the governorship of Izmit.

On his first day in office on September 22, Mr Yönden, said: “I’m one who loves to study and I also love to be in contact with the press. I believe we can do great things for Didim.”

Born in Adana in 1971, he completed a degree in public administration at Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences before completing an internship in the UK.

He served in various governships in Turkey before taking up the post in Erzurum in 2010.
