Drivers unhurt in smash

TWO drivers escaped unscathed after their vehicles collided on the Didim-Akbuk Highway this week.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision overturned, but the driver escaped unhurt.

Police have now launched an inquiry into the cause of the accident.

New fire trucks for Aydin

Emergency fire crews across the Aydin Province are to get new fire trucks and four-by-four vehicles for all-terrain in fighting fires.

Nine fire trucks are to be bought, along with other key fire-fighting equipment.

Some of the equipment was highlighted during the National Fire Week from September 25 to October 1 at Didim’s Town Square.

In the first nine months of 2014, Aydin fire department tackled 189 house and warehouse fires, 10 factory fires, 32 shop fires, 79 vehicle fires, 623 garden, scrubland and olive grove fires. Fire teams also attended 77 traffic accidents.

Two suicide attempts in Didim

POLICE are investigating two suicide attempts that occurred on the same day in different parts of the town.

One woman is said to have fallen from a second floor apartment in Sokak 1308 in Efelar Mah., while a man apparently fell to the ground another second floor apartment elsewhere. The conditions of both have not been revealed, but police have begun an investigation into the incidents.

Illegal immigrant caught

DIDIM Coast Guard has apprehended 80 illegal immigrants as they tried to escape to Greece.

Most of the nationals were from Syria and were brought back ashore after they were caught by the coast guard. They were handed over to Aydin police Foreigners’ Department.
