Turkish Airlines is to add four extra flights a week to Istanbul from Manchester Airport in the UK as a result of “greater demand for international travel and growth in passenger numbers,” the national air carrier has revealed.
The four extra flights, from the UK’s third-biggest airport in terms of passenger numbers, will be available from May 25 2015, followed by an extra three flights per week from June 22 – creating a total of three flights to Turkey’s largest city every day.
Turkish Airlines’ general manager for Manchester, Ersen Engin, said that in 2014 they saw their passenger numbers increase by 18 percent from January to August, compared to the same period in 2013, describing Istanbul as “a hot destination for long weekend breaks and extended summer holidays.”
The new flights are scheduled to depart Manchester at 23:45 GMT, designed to give additional connections to Eastern Europe, parts of the Middle East and key destinations within Turkey.
“Travellers using the new TK1492 flight will be able to reach some cities before noon, giving the chance to enjoy breakfast in a different country,” Engin added.
Underscoring that Manchester Airport serves more than 20 million passengers a year to reach more than 200 destinations worldwide, Engin said: “Over the summer months, these numbers are expected to soar as residents of Manchester and surrounding areas embark on their summer vacations.
