New water wells and price rises

Update

DIDIM and Akbuk are to get five new water wells – but it hasn’t stopped the price of water rising!

As Voices reported last week, residents will face a hike in prices for water.

Those on residential rates, the cost has gone up from 3.50TL per tonne to 5TL.

Those on builders’ rates the cost has jumped from 5.90TL per tonne to 10TL.

The average across Turkey for residential rates is between 1TL and 2.5TL per tonne.

A signature campaign has been started by local groups calling on Aydin Council, which now oversees water and sewer maintenance, why the charges are so high.

Nevertheless, Aydin Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration General Directorate (ASKİ) has unveiled new plans to bring two water wells on stream for Didim and three for Akbuk this year.

Didim will see its water wells upped in total from 42 to 44, with the two new ones being opened up in the Hisar district.
