Update

DIDIM Akut, the local search and rescue body, has appealed to the local public to swell its numbers and find out more about the group’s activities.

Akut is a Turkish voluntary group which conducts search and rescue in times of need. The group has two liaison points, Fatih Saglam for the Turkish community and Richard Rush for the foreign community.

Richard, who has just been recently installed, has lived in Didim for a number of years. He said: “My aim is to push Akut forward and to be known by all in Didim whatever their nationality.

“We need to raise funds to buy equipment in order to put our training to good use when necessary.”

There will be various events taking place in Didim and the surrounding areas on a regular basis.

Mr Rush said the group needs more members to join.

It meets every other Wednesday at Didim fire station opposite Saturday market from 7pm-9pm. Various training exercises are undertaken to attain the required standards.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday April 29. All welcome to join.
