DIDIM Mayor Deniz ATABAY has reacted to criticism from centre quarters in the town about the pavement and road works issues by declaring: “The council will get it right”.

In a week when the main source of comment among expats and holidaymakers has been the desperate state of Adnan Menderes Boulevard (Marina Road), Barbaros Caddesi in Camlik, and other minor roads, Mr Atabay came out fighting at latest press conference.

He said that Didim’s two biggest problems were the pavements and the cleaning of the town in general.

He added that sidewalk and pavement improvements works were continuing but acknowledged that a lot more had to be done.

He said: “A lot of street paving work has been completed but there are places in Camlik Mah that require attention, as well as other areas, such as Hisar.

Mr Atabay suggested that next year – as with other towns in Turkey – the cleaning operation of streets may well be privatized.
