THE Didim Alevi community are hosting a rally on June 2 to commemorate the massacre of Sivas in 1993 of 32 Alevi intellectuals.

The Sivas massacre refers to the events of July 2, 1993 which resulted in the killing of 35 people, mostly Alevi intellectuals. The victims, who had gathered for a cultural festival in Sivas were killed when a mob set fire to the Madimak Hotel where the Alevi group had assembled.

This year, on July 2, there will be a scheduled programme, including a concert and march, in Didim.

The 1pm panel discussion, at Didim Cem Evi, 19 Mayis Cad (near the SGK office on the Hospital Road), will include panelist: Haluk Gerger.

There will be a march from the Didim Cem Evi community centre to New Town Square at 5pm.

There will then be folk dancing and a performance from group İsyan Ateşı at the Didim Cem Evi at 8.30pm.
