Update

DIDIM Council has adopted new laws which seek to stop residents and builders building structures of wood and metal on top of roofs.

Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay made the announcement at his weekly conference with the local press.

He said: “We have decided that as a council to adopt rules that stop constructions on top of roof, whether they are made of wood or steel.”

He added the bylaw had the backing of architects and was also designed to honour building regulations in the likely event of earthquakes

At the press conference, he added that the Didim Council’s website would be upgraded.

He added that council workers were spraying areas over the next two months to combat mosquito larvae and a commitment to carry on protecting the coastal areas

Akbuk road asphalting work is due to begin between May 20 to 25, he added.
