Akbuk residents vent their issues

STRAY dogs, construction of roads and sewers were among several issues raised by residents in Akbuk with council officials last week.

Municipality heads in the resort listened to the complaints of locals during a meeting last week.

The Head of Departments who attended the meeting tried to answer questions from the public after introducing themselves.

Common questions of the public included the high water fees, concerns over the ongoing sewer laying project, construction of roads, stray animals and the erosion of the coastal areas.

Officials including Bülent Bozbaş, Erdoğan Öztürk, Social services department Tahsin Kocaman, Urban Affairs spokesman Ertuğrul Yağmen and water department head Nermin Canyurt were present.

Accidents leave several injured

ONE man was seriously and others were lucky to be counting their lives were still intact after separate crashes in and around Didim last week.

A car swerved and overturned in a field just off Inonu Bulvari. The driver, aged 20, and his passenger, were able to free themselves and walk away with minor injuries after the car they were in lost control and careered into a field.

Meanwhile a motorcyclist suffered serious injury when he was dragged for 150 metres after he came off his bike on the Didim-Akbuk road.

The man, named as Yilmaz Aker, had left victory celebrations locally following the Galatasaray-Besiktas

Animal rights on bar’s agenda

ANIMAL rights law in Turkey will be the hot debate of a three-day conference in Kusadasi at the weekend.

One hundred members of the Turkish Bar and Bar Congress headed to the Aydin Bar’s sponsored conference at the Kusadasi Pine Bay Resort Hotel. The conference will aim to find solutions to problems related to animal rights.

Turkey Bar Association Representatives considered adjusting the animal rights laws and address issues before becoming substantive proposals for the national association.

Animal rights activists have called for the development and improvement of several laws as well as concerns at the lack of existing laws, enforcement problems and solutions to improve the law.

Animal rights abuses and associated issues were also to be aired.

Students offered environment education

STUDENTS from Yalıköy Middle School were recently tasked with learning more about the importance of the environment.

With Blue Flag beaches set to be confirmed, Didim Municipality decided to host lessons for the youngsters for the first time at a local nature park.

Nature Park Environmental Education Foundation of Turkey (TÜRÇEV) North Aegean Provincial Coordinator Dogan Karakas was the aim speaker.

Students learned more about climate change, the increase of chemical use and fossil fuels causing greenhouse gases and effects of shrinking habitats and melting glaciers.

Mr Karakas suggested they engaged in recycling activities and cycle more in helping to protect the environment. After this, the youngster cheerfully chanted ‘Climate Friendly Didim’ and opened banners and waved blue flags.
