Update

DIDIM Municipality has gone on the attack to urge its resident and visitors to the area to drop their litter in bins – rather than the road or on waste land.

Didim Municipal Sanitary Affairs Manager Müdürü Firuzan called on the public to be patient as the council’s services coped with the usually higher than normal demands during the holiday season.

He called on residents and citizens’ support in sustainable cleaning by dropping their litter in bins and discarding waste responsibly.

He said: “Our district is made up of 16 districts and our municipal cleaning services has to cover an area equivalent to 402 km2.

“Our Sanitation Department continues to work for sustainable waste management and we call on our citizens that whatever waste they are getting rid of, whether it is office, domestic, garden or construction waste, they do so responsibly.”

He said the district had a capacity of 550 800 litre containers above ground and several underground containers.

He added: “Due to some residents not disposing waste wisely, there are often bad smells combined with visual pollution.

Cumhuriyet Caddesi, Kurtuluş Caddesi, Yalı Caddesi, Karakol Caddesi, Üç Mevsim Caddesi and the hotel areas were of major concern.

He reminded the public of the recycling containers on streets for paper, cardboard, glass and metal. “We all want a better, cleaner environment for our town and by acting a little more sensitively and by heightening our environmental awareness, we can.”
