Complex residents raise ‘untidy’ issues

RESIDENTS on a small complex close to the Didim Tesco Kipa store have complained to Didim Voices about the overgrown untidy state of their local roads.

Living on the 64-unit Sunflower Complex, opposite the superstore, residents have pointed to the state of their local roads, notably around Sokaks 855, 856 and 861, as those in need of urgent attention from the Didim Council.

John Matthews said he flagged up the rundown looking nature of the area after the Mayor, Deniz Atabay, was pictured praising the efforts of council staff and the projects achieved in other areas to lift and clean up the town.

Mr Matthews said: “In our areas, where there used to be flower beds, it has now overtaken by weeds and overgrown grass. There’s little input in the area to keep it clean.

“It is also getting worse with fly-tipping and rubbish being dumped by locals, making the area look very shabby. It’s not a great advertisement for Didim.

“All we are asking for the council to take a good look at our area and make the efforts to clean it up. We as residents have tried, but it is becoming a losing battle.”

The issues raised have been passed on to the council.

Wraps come off David People

One of the most famous coffeehouse chains has finally tken the wraps off its Didim branch – at last.

Percolating slowly, Voices was given a sneaky peak at the inside of the coffee and food chain which is at the former Cafe Arti venue, on Ataturk Bulvari.

It will bring a new vibe to the area as well as a great new menu for everyone to enjoy.

Voices has been told that the David People venue will be opening either this week or at least by the end of June.

Immigrants continue flood into town

A GROUP of 112 Syrian immigrants, including 13 women and six children, have been rescued after their boat sank off Didim’s shores.

The group were among a continuous flood into the region as they sort to begin new lives in Europe. Didim and its coastline is seen as the treacherous part of the run to the Greek ilands, and the backdoor into Europe.

The latest group were picked up by Didim Coast Guard on Tuesday and were transferred to Aydin.
