Update

RESIDENTS have launched petitions to get Aydin Council to install speed ramps around the Third Beach neighbourhood after a two-car smash.

The accident, occurred at a crossroads on Karadeniz Cadessi, at the back of Sunset Aparthotel, owned by Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay, last Friday.

At about 3pm, a grey travelling along Karadeniz Cad smacked into a white car travelling along a minor road with access to Adnan Menderes Bulvari, The impact caused the white car to spin completely on its axis.

Fortunately no-one was injured, other than  a shaken passenger in the white car.

acci3However, the fact that the roads – which were laid with blockpaving only in March – have caused residents to become concerned with the speed of traffic along them.

One resident said: “We all predicted that there was an accident waiting to happen on these roads as there is no warning signs to slow drivers down or speed ramps to make them break.

“The accident occurred and no-one was injured. But it could have been a lot worse, tourists could have been injured or killed and that is not a good advert for the area or the resort.”

Within days, a petition had been drawn up by foreign and Turkish residents and has been delivered to Didim council, with it to be passed to Aydin, calling for speed ramps to slow traffic down.
