DOCUMENTS, potentially of a Lebanese refugee, have been handed into police after they were found  by an Italian citizen.

Anna Geroni handed in a wallet, a watch, money, credit cards and other personal documents she discovered while snorkelling off the coast of Mesut Tatil Sitesi, one of the islets dotted around the Didim coastline.

docs1Police praised the lady for her ‘exemplary behaviour” for handing in the personal effects.

Stating that she had lived in Didim for three years, Ms Geroni hoped that all the valuables would one day be handed back to the owner.

She later added to Didim Voices Facebook page: “The items were in about 2 meters of water and I was actually snorkelling. It was an unsettling experience that my friend who was snorkelling with me have struggled with.

“Who knows what happened to this man. There were some very personal drawings obviously made by a young child folded carefully into his wallet and many photos of friends and family including children.

“It certainly brought the reality of the situation, the dangers and desperation of these people to the forefront.”
