MEMBERS of an Akbuk complex raised 1,100TL through a sponsored swim and a ‘bottle’ tombola to help buy aid for Syrian refugees.

Residents on the Summer Breeze complex got behind a sponsored 3km swim by Malcolm Cheadle and a freind from Ulaş to Akbuk harbor.

Pic 1This was then followed up by a raffle of various goods to help raise the eventual total to 1,100TL for a spending spree on children’s, baby related and other items for the Syrians, particularly a camp at Torbali, near Izmir.

The aid was then picked up by three Akbuk ladies who have been supporting a local group in Kusadasi who have built up a rapport with and distribute the aid to the camps.

Summer Breeze resident Diana Speirs (right with others residents from Summer Breeze) , who was one of the co-organisers, thanked everyone who supported and donated generously to the events.

“It gave us ladies a great excuse to go for a good spend at Akbuk market, but with the positive outcome that it was all for the Syrian refugees.”

The events were also supported by Jane Isherwood, Rhona Murdoch, Barbara Corker and Malcom Cheadle.
