Didyma Darts’ community programme

Didyma Darts is trying to promote the game of darts in local schools.

Schools are keen, and an additional welcome to the sports curriculum to promote mental arithmetic. The schools need help in the form if darts equipment. If anyone can help with donations of old darts , boards etc. It will be much appreciated.

Northern Cyprus meet

On February 20-21, Northern Cyprus Dart Federation hosted the third leg of the Turkish Rankings Tournament at
a 5 star hotel, situated in Salamis Bay.

Four representatives from the Didyma Darts Organisation attended, together with their wives and some supporters.  Bearing in mind most of the top 30 players from the Turkish National Dart Team were present, we were honoured by the warmth and friendliness by which we were greeted and the welcome we received.

Our players, Ron Brown (Captain), Tony Sapsford, Chris Bate and Alan Wilson, played in the “warm up” open Tournament on the Friday. A number of local expats also entered this competition,

A number of local expats also entered this competition, Ron drawing the Turkish No 5. Although he lost the game, he was down to the double in all three legs, earning the congratulations and respect of his opponent and the spectators watching the match.

Chris and Tony had byes in the first round and Alan won his first match, scoring 180 on the way to victory.  Alan and Tony were drawn against each other in the next round with Alan emerging the victor.

Chris and Alan were both through to the last sixteen and although they lost, they fought gallantly and acquitted themselves well.  It was a little preview of what was to come and a big statement showing we were a force to be reckoned with.

Saturday saw the first of the Ranking Competitions, with Tony, yet again, getting a bye through to the second round.  Ron drew the number five ranked player for the second time scoring 180 against him, unfortunately all four of our players lost in this, the last sixteen round.

Sunday, the final Tournament, Tony (now named “the bye”) had a bye, yet again in the first round along with Alan.  Ron and Chris both won their first round matches.  Chris’s opponent scored 2 X 180’s against him and Chris replied with 2 X 180’s as well, a terrific match.

Second round saw Alan and Tony going through to the last eight, Tony scoring 174 and 180, fantastic darts.

A superb weekend of Darts and a great experience, our boys did themselves proud.  We should all share in the pride our team earned for themselves and for Didim.  They have worked so hard and deserve every accolade we can give them.

Huge thanks to Ron for his organisational skills in ensuring a smooth and stressless attendance at these Tournaments for us all, players and spectators alike.  So important for the team to enable them to perform to their best abilities.

The following weekend was the first of the newly formed Inter-City Aegean Dart Tournament.  The Tournament was held in Izmir  and was attended by teams representing Bodrum, Didim, Izmir and Kusadasi.  This Competition is to be held over four meetings and a finals tournament.
