Animal shelter equipped with operating table

DONATIONS from kind-hearted animal lovers have helped to raise enough money to equip Didim Council’s animal shelter with a new operating table.

Supporters and volunteers who helped on a daily basis at the shelter raised the funding within a number of months.

Didim Municipality Animal Shelter chief Derya Güneş said: “We have received donations from our British friends for many years in helping the shelter. The latest project was to raise funding for an operating table as we lacked one and they completed that quickly.

“Funding is now underway towards a blood testing device for the shelter.”

Help-in-Hands helps out frail local

DIDIM charity Help-in-Hands have helped out a local thanks to customers of Casper’s Bar.

They have helped to provide an orthopedic bed to Ismail Turan, a frail 77-year-old who lives in Akyenikoy.

Lynn Cole, from the charity, commented: “We identified him when we were delivering food parcels at the end of Bayram. He is a frail 77 year old who had a stroke two years ago.

“He was sleeping on an air bed on the floor, which made it rather awkward when he was being washed and fed. So this bed will make a real difference to his life and his wife’s as she is of similar age.

“Thanks to everyone who helped out.”

New service for yellow buses

The yellow Aydin Metropolitan buses have begun a new service between Aydin and Akbuk.

Twice a day, the buses will run from Aydin-Akbuk via Soke and Didim, and back. Disabled and over 65s can use the buses for free as long as they have the correct passes.

The service began August 1. They leave every morning at 6:50am and 10:30am from Aydin – returning from Akbuk at 2pm and 5.30pm. Fees are as follows: Didim-Akbük 3TL; Akbuk-Söke 9TL; Akbuk-Aydın 13.50TL.
