Update

TAXES on property purchases in Turkey have been slashed by 10 percent in advance of the snap election on June 24.

Pro-government NTV broadcaster said Value Added Tax on property purchases would be reduced from 18 percent to 8 percent, while title deed duty will be reduced from 2 percent to 1.5 percent. Both are valid until October 31, 2018.

However, there was bad news for drinkers who still face a stiff rise in the cost of raki, vodka and gin.

The tax on rakı rose from 171.2 TL to 184.3 TL, while vodka and gin went up from 175.6 TL to 184.4 TL.

NTV said tax rates for some alcoholic beverages such as liquor, wine and whiskey have been reduced.

A further change was an increase in tax credits for women sending their children to creches and daycare centres, in an attempt to increase the number of women in work.
