THE sensitive renovation of the Exchange House, which will become a museum chronicling the Population Exchange of 1923, has received a major prize.

It has been recognised by the Association of Turkish Historical Towns. President Atabay will attend a ceremony in Antalya and receive the prize.

Following the War of Independence, the settlers from the Hisar district were involved in the population exchange. The two-storey house has been re-designed and renovated by the Didim Municipality and will reflect the story of that exchange.

Didim Municipality will be rewarded at the ceremony to be held at the International Yapex Building and Restoration Fair which has become one of the traditional meeting points of the Turkish construction industry. It will be held on 14-17 November in Antalya by Turkish Historical Cities Association.

Deniz Atabay stated that they were invited to Antalya to receive a project award from the Competition on Encouraging Historical and Cultural Heritage Projects and Practices.

Mr Atabay said that the restoration works are due to be completed in a short time.
