A TOTAL of 36 illegal buildings – which have mushroomed between Aquasis Hotel and Imbat Sitesi – have been destroyed by Didim Council.

The video, above from IHA, shows the extent of some of the destruction.

The structures, including villa-type homes, were brought crashing to the ground as part of a coordinated crackdown by the council.

Most of the demolition took place on 11 acres of land between Imbat Site and Aquasis Hotel.

The structures are understood to have been built on land owned by the central government’s National Property Directorate.

The mayor served notice on the offenders on 26 November and action was taken shortly afterwards.

Mayor Deniz Atabay stated that such unauthorized and unlicensed structures could not be granted permission, because the area in question was a tourism allocation region and there should not be any construction.

The demolition process is expected to take about 1 month. If the owners of the illegal builds do not destroy the properties, the municipality will knock them down and recoeve the cost of destruction from the owners.
