Help-in-Hands has bid a fond farewell to one of its main members.

Members convened at Cash’s Terrace Bar to say farewell to  Zilpha Griffiths and to wish her all the very best in her retirement.

A plaque was presented in honour of her selfless contribution to the local community.

When the group first began, Zilpha, having previously worked in accounts, offered her services on the committee as treasurer. She has held the purse strings for over nine years and will be missed for her direction and positive contribution to Didim Help-in-Hands, said H-I-H’s Lynn Cole.

The group also presented an exercise machine to nine-year-old Gulumsu.

Lynn said: “When she was three we purchased a child’s wheelchair for her and later a walker.

“Sadly Gulumsu has Spina Bifida and has had numerous operations to realign her shoulders hips legs and feet. She is a wonderful and determined little girl who will exercise every day.

“This new machine, which was part-funded by a local Turkish businessman, will support her, allowing her the freedom to stand and walk.

“While her mother thanked us in Turkish, Gulumsu thanked us in English. She deserves the best.”
