Update

The latest monthly meeting of the Ploggers in Didim was held on Saturday October 2.

Here are the details:

1 – Thanks to everyone who came along to the meeting. Also thanks for everyone hard work over a long hot summer and to Erdal Ayfer Kamacı on Sunshine boat for a great boat plog last weekend. We hope we can do another before the end of the season.

2- We sadly lost one of our founder members Roz Millington two weeks ago, very suddenly and unexpectedly. Many of the newer members won’t know her as she had to stop plogging some time back but she was a lovely lady and a keen plogger. Our best wishes got out to her family.

3 – Their winter timetable is as follows: All plogs will now be on Wednesdays at 14.30pm.

6th – Sagtur Beach

13th – Koy Hizmetleri/ Robinson’s caravan. Beach day and BBQ

20th – Manastir Beach

27th -Yesilkent- Aldente Beach

3rd Nov – Sarıkum Beach (past Teachers beach)

We will also be joining in the Republic Day celebrations in the town square on the 29th in our plogging hats and t-shirts to raise awareness of our group

Our next meeting will be at Sarmaşık Restaurant on the 6th November.

4 – Any other business brought up some good ideas from Mehmet Taştepe and there was a lot of discussion between our Turkish members about how we could raise our profile in the area and make closer contacts with the Council, Kaymakam and local businesses, schools, media and also other plogging groups.

Tuncer Uzun, our longest Turkish member pointed out that we had tried a lot of these things previously with varying amounts of success. Then Covid started and everything came to a halt. We are certainly willing to try again to rebuild these ties and with our core of keen and dedicated Turkish members who can make these contacts, we hope our group can continue to grow and move forward

Sedef Koy Plog Oct 2 – by Anne Baxter-Cooper

A very windy plog today at Sedef Plaji where 8 of us met to tackle the shore line . At first sight, there did not appear to be much to collect but we managed 8 bags and a lot of thick trawler rope hidden by the sand and seaweed. Thank you to everyone who came…Great team work as always and thank you to Bulent for the welcome refreshments!
