A SECOND phase of the long-running Akbuk sewerage works will be held on August 11, Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay told residents this week.

At the public meeting held in Akbük Neighborhood by Didim Municipality, the problems of the citizens were listened to and solutions offered.

Mayor Atabay gave the good news that a tender will be held on 11 August for the sewerage works that will connect the sewer infrastructure created in the first phase to the Didim pipelines.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayors Yusuf Deveci, Öznur Demirci Gündoğdu and Zeynel Şener, CHP Didim District President Nurettin Koçak, some CHP municipal council members, Aydın BŞB ASKİ bureaucrats and scores of residents.

Speaking at the meeting, Mayor A. Deniz Atabay stated that normal life has been restored after a long pandemic period, but there has been an increase in the number of cases in recent days, and asked everyone to act cautiously against the virus.

Reminding that some services and works have been suspended for a long time, Mayor Atabay said municipalities continue to stand by the people.

Atabay stated that one of the main reasons for the meeting was that they came to talk with the public and to talk about the problems.

He said, “We will try to make every service better with the public together with solution suggestions. In Akbuk, we will talk about the main topics and the problems and solutions.

“Akbuk’s biggest problem was the infrastructure, that is, the sewer problem. We had a lot of work waiting at this point. Sewerage lines in Akbuk of 88 km were built and improvement works to the roads were carried out.”

Noting there are two proposals for the sewerage, Atabay said: “For the sewerage, it should either be given to the bay where deep sea discharge will be made, or it should be connected to the Didim treatment at a distance of 67 km.

“The system in Akbuk Bay was not considered due to the current in the sea. It was decided to connect to Didim within the other system and the project was drawn.

“In the process, there was a process of holding the tender and obtaining the loan by Iller Bank for a period of 1.5 years. After waiting for a long time, we got all the permits and the contracts were signed by ASKİ.

“We recently received the tender decision from Iller Bank. Due to the project cost of 57 million TL in the first project and the increase in the line, the cost of the project of 200 million TL is ready and will be tendered on the 11th of August.

“This process was carried out under very difficult conditions. In today’s life, everything goes up and it is difficult to tender for such a huge project. This is a milestone for Akbuk, this system will be connected to Didim treatment.”
