235 cats and dogs sterilized in Didim

A joint campaign by Didim Animals and Nature Foundation Association (DİHAD), Didim Municipality and Animal Rights Federation (HAYTAP) for the benefit of street animals has been highly successful. 

In the campaign in which 5 vets and a technician participated, 235 stray animals – 85 of them dogs and 150 cats – were sterilized/neutered between August 8 and 13. 

HAYTAP Deputy Chairman, Veterinarian Ömer Selçin, said the vets and volunteers utilized the rooms of DİHAD after the sterilizations took place at the operating room facilities in the Didim Municipality Stray Animals Shelter.

After being detained, the street animals were released back to the citizen who brought them or to the places where they were taken. During the campaign, the vets performed to amputations on two cats.

DİHAD President Bilal Süren, who gave information about the campaign, said that they had carried out similar campaigns with other municipalities with shelters and veterinarians.

Süren thanked the Mayor Deniz Atabay and all the staff for allowing the Didim Municipality to use the operating room facility in the Shelter. 


He stated that pre-operative sterilization materials, drugs and medical needs during and after the operations were provided by volunteers from Didim, and he thanked all the people of Didim who helped. 

Volunteer veterinarians from Van, Tatvan, Diyarbakır and Aydın participated in this campaign, that 235 stray stray animals, 85 of them dogs and 150 cats, were neutered.

“It is pleasing to reach this number in a short time,” he stated, and thanked the support of the participating HAYTAP volunteer veterinarians.


He also stated that they would like to thank Didim Municipality for the accommodation support of the volunteers in Didim, and the Private Altınadım Special Education and Rehabilitation Center officials for their support in bringing the volunteers to Didim from outside the city.

Animal Rights Federation (HAYTAP) is a non-governmental organization that actively works to defend animal rights and protect stray animals through its representatives all over Turkey.
