Two primary school friends – 12-year-old Ada Başer and İrem Bilik (7) – have sold various items from their homes to help the met the vet costs of four abandoned kittens they discovered.

The Kusadasi-based youngsters, from the Ege District, found the stray kittens in the garden of Köseoğlu Sitesi about 3 weeks ago. They gave them the names ‘Mr’, ‘Spi Garlic’, ‘Vi’ and Nugger’ when they began feeding them.

Kuşadası Municipality teams were then contacted by the families of Ada and İrem and took them to Kuşadası Pet Rehabilitation Center with the children. The kittens were first checked for general health by the veterinarian Cihan Şengün, who works at the center.

Following internal parasite vaccines, the kittens were handed over to İrem and Ada so they can return home safely. They will now be regularly checked at the Kuşadası Pet Rehabilitation Center.

Şengün stated Ada and İrem took very good care of the kittens, adding: “They dsplayed very sensitive behavior. They fed, raised and made them healthy with their own means. I hope their behavior will set an example for everyone.”

The sensitivity shown by the animal-loving friends was also appreciated by the local residents. Remziye Küçüker, who lives in Ege Mahallesi, said, “I appreciated the sensitivity of children. Despite their young age, they have produced a very nice project for stray animals.”

Ada’s mother, Gift Başer, said: “When my daughter told me her opinion, I immediately said ‘yes’. They set up stalls in different parts of the neighborhood for a while. We supported them as families. I am proud of my daughter and İrem .

Irem said: “We worked hard for three weeks. We opened our counter at 10:00 in the morning and waited until the sun went down. Thank you to those who supported us.”
