Update

One of Turkey’s first Walking Football communities continues to be a big hit in Didim, with nearly 120 players having joined since it was launched 25 weeks ago.

The Didim Walking Football Club (DWFC) has quickly grown from a 5-a-side gathering to dozens participating at its weekly Monday morning games. It includes people who have recently recovered from cancer and have had double knee and hip replacements.

In recent weeks, DWFC’s founder John Croft, Mark William and James Ash, have been delighted to see continued support from the local community.

Several milestones have also been hit: including celebrating 117 players joining the set up since launch. Session 25 saw a record 34 players joining, including two referees and ten spectators.

“We also had Premier League referee legend Mike Dean join us, playing football for the first time in years,” the founders commented.

JUST4U Bar & Café provides a venue for the team to meet and organize events that help raise funds for future games outside the area. As a thank you, the team presented venue owner Husain with a framed first

article on DWFC in the Voices Newspaper back in the summer.
