Aydın Metropolitan Municipality and Didim Municipality officials met with citizens in Akbük. New steps were announced to be taken for a more beautiful Akbük after listening to the locals’ problems.

Mayor A. Deniz Atabay, Deputy Mayors Yusuf Deveci, Zeynel Şener, E. Öznur Gündoğdu and Metin Başer, and many citizens attended the meeting in the Akbük Port area on September 26.

Mayor Atabay said: “We explained our work and plans to our citizens for the further development of Akbük neighborhood. We noted their complaints and requests. Hopefully, we will implement all our plans in the new period. Akbük will be a more livable place.”

Sewage works to continue

Providing information about the status of the sewage system, Mayor Atabay stated that the Akbük infrastructure has been completed and that work will continue in the Denizköy-Fevzipaşa neighbourhood area for the second stage.

Explaining that the reason for the delay in the second stage was the Bank of Provinces’ failure to issue the tender, Atabay said, “The tests of Akbük’s sewage system will start again in February, and this problem will be eliminated in March.”

Drınkıng water statıons to be established

Stating that there is a drinking water problem in Akbük, ASKİ General Directorate Treatment Facilities Department Head Hakan Kirif said that new wells were opened for Akbük’s drinking water, but groundwater was withdrawn due to the lack of rain.

He said that there was a decrease in flow rates due to the high population density in Akbük in the summer, but from now on there will be no problem with water flow.

Mayor Atabay stated that ASKİ has taken steps regarding the Sarıçay dam, but the issue will be followed by the Ministry and gave the good news that they will carry out a new study as Didim Municipality in terms of drinking water.

Atabay said: “We will establish water stations at certain points of the city, without causing any damage to the businesses selling drinking water, and we will enable people to buy water from these places with a card.”

Food factory for street animals

Stating that the food factory they established for stray animals started working 1.5 months ago, Atabay said, “In the future, we will distribute the food we produce to street animals free of charge.”

Noting that they had some projects in the Akbük Port area but could not obtain permits, Atabay noted that work for the bicycle and walking path had started and that they planned to put it into service in a short time.
