The 4th Didim Bicycle Festival (BİFEST), organized by Didim Municipality and Didim Posedion Bicycle Sports Club, has been deemed an amazing success by those that took part.

The three-day festival include cycle tours around the region and concludes with certificates being presented to the participants.

Cycling enthusiasts had the opportunity to visit the historical, touristic and historical places of Didim. The cyclists gathered at the Tavşanburnu Forest Camp and pedalled from the Forest Camp to the City Square, accompanied by police security, on the first day of the festival.

The event in the City Square started with a minute of silence and then the reading of the national anthem. Speaking at the event, Didim Poseidon Bicycle Club President İbrahim Sümer stated that they came together with cycling enthusiasts from different parts of the country at the festival for the 4th time.

He said: “We are happy to have you as our guests from different cities of our country and to see you among us in our two-day enjoyable and cultural tour.”

He said the first day saw a visit to Miletus Ancient City. After that, they took a short tour of the municipality’s medicinal and aromatic plants park.

On the second day, members visited the Temple of Apollo and then out to Akbuk Bay, where they had the opportunity to swim in Aegean.

Deputy Mayor of Didim, E. Öznur Gündoğdu, drew attention to the importance of using bicycles in terms of environmental and urban awareness and said, “I am here representing our Mayor, Mr. Ahmet Deniz Atabay. We attach great importance to these bicycle festivals. Because the use of bicycles is really important for a sustainable city and a sustainable environment.”

She said under the instructions of the Mayor, the council has approved all projects of an 80-kilometre bicycle path. Last month, it began the construction of a 15km line across Akbük.
