The pottery profession of Aydın’s Karacasu district, made with traditional methods, contains subtle life stories.

The profession, which requires manual labor and wholehearted dedication from the first stage to the last stage, has cinematographic elements as well as being a source of income.

While the masters demonstrate their skills on the loom, which can be described as a stage, other members of the family such as spouses, children and siblings demonstrate a great example of effort and struggle behind the scenes.

Fatma Saygın, whose father was a potter and who was born into this business, so to speak, exhibits a work example that will set an example for young people.

The 75-year-old related works in many areas, from cleaning and sifting the soil stone to transporting and drying the products. She said: “Everyone works to earn a living. I also help. I do the fetching work. I carry the pottery out, I dry it, I bring the pans.

“I turn the products upside down and grab them. That’s how we do it. My father, Ali Uzman, was a potter. We started by helping. I have been in this business for 60-65 years. What can I say to the young people? Everyone should work.”
