The European Union (EU) Delegation to Turkey conducted awareness-raising activities in the Muğla region on November 20-21 as part of the global initiatives, the EU Beach Cleanup Campaign and Tree Planting Campaign.

These initiatives are jointly implemented worldwide under the framework of ‘Green Diplomacy Week’.

The events, attended by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, commenced with a beach cleaning event at Göcek İnlice Bay.

This event, organized in collaboration with the Clean Sea Association (TURMEPA), involved the participation of the young Blue Detectives, emphasizing the critical importance of ecosystem preservation.

The activities continued by spotlighting sea cleaning efforts in Göcek-Dalaman bays, utilizing boats in coordination with the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department, led by Aylin Giray.

The focus was on examining the waste management system, aimed at combatting marine pollution.

Efforts to combat marine pollution and regenerate burnt forests were also undertaken. Representatives from the Ministry of Forestry and Professor Doğanay Tolunay Akdeniz worked in Köyceğiz, an area affected by fires in 2021.

The activities concluded with a collective planting of saplings to contribute to the re-greening of the affected areas.
